ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the rate of capsule contracture after operation of the textured surfaces breast implants and the smooth surfaces breast implants, to provide evidence for plastic surgeons to select the type of breast implants during breast augmentation. Methods:This study started from January 2018 to May 2019. Chinese and English databases including Wanfang Science and Technology Periodical Full-text Database, VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Full-text Database (VIP) and CNKI, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Science Drirect Online were searched by computer. Some relevant studies were collected for this meta-analysis.Results:We identified 9 studies including a total of 13165 subjects for the meta-analysis. The OR value of the study was 0.43 (95% CI: 0.35, 0.51), and the incidence rate of capsule contracture in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group. In cumulative meta-analysis and sensitivity test, the conclusion was stable. And there was no publication bias found by Egger regression test. Conclusions:The textured surfaces breast implants are better than the smooth surfaces breast implants in terms of incidence rate of capsule contracture after augmentation mammoplasty.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the function of hyperbaric oxygen in the wound healing of skin dermabrasion. Methods A total of 32 cases of facial scar underwent skin dermabrasion,in which 20 cases were caused by acne and 12 cases by external injury.16 cases were given hyperbaric oxygen treatment after skin dermabrasion randomly and lasted for 6 days, while the other 16 cases were given only routine dressing change which was same to the hyperbaric oxygen group. We observed the wound healing time and dress changing time under the condition of hyperbaric oxygen and no hyperbaric oxygen after skin dermabrasion. Results Sixteen cases received hyperbaric oxygen recovered with short healing time, average 11 days, while other 16 cases received no hyperbaric oxygen recovered with longer healing time, average 16 days, without wound infection.Significant statistical difference (P<0.05) was found by SPSS 11.5 analysis. However, the average time of dress changing in hyperbaric oxygen group was 5 days, which was a little more than that of the group without hyperbaric oxygen treatment (average time of 4 days) although there was no significant statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusions The wound healing of skin dermabrasion can be improved by hyperbaric oxygen.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the curative effects and complications when using microvascular decompression (MVD) or gamma knife surgery (GKS) to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN). And to investigate the prognosis for TN after these treatments.@*METHODS@#Sixty-one TN patients treated using MVD and eighty-six TN patients treated using GKS were enrolled by means of telephone, letter or out-patient recheck; the patients had originally presented from December 1996 to June 2010. A chi-square test was applied to follow-up data on pain relief after 1 month, 6 months and 12 months, and at the final follow-up.@*RESULTS@#One hundred and two patients were followed for 3-151 months. Cumulative pain relief rates at 1, 6, 12 months and at end times were 90.48%, 95.24%, 92.86%, and 95.24%, respectively, for forty-two MVD-treated patients, and 23.33%, 83.33%, 86.67% and 90% for sixty GKS-treated patients, respectively. The effects of two methods for treatment of TN was not statistically different (χ(2) = 2.053, P=0.152). Pain relief rates in the short-term (first month) demonstrated statistically significant differences (P0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Immediate pain relief with MVD treatment is higher than with GKS, but in the long term both treatments were comparable.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To analyze the complication, survival and life quality, and to explore the efficacy and prognosis of skull base chordoma treated by open surgery and gamma knife surgery (GKS).@*METHODS@#Thirty-eight patients with skull base chordomas who underwent an open surgery and another 19 patients who underwent GKS between January 2002 and January 2010 were followed up. The Karnofsky performance scale (KPS) at admission, discharge and follow-up, and recurrent rates were calculated through SPSS life-table, and survival rate curve was used to evaluate the efficacy and prognosis.@*RESULTS@#Forty patients were followed up, and the survival rate of 1, 3 and 5 years was 92.6%, 74.3% and 60% in 27 patients with open surgery, and 100%, 83.3% and 62.5% in 13 patients with GKS respectively. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups (χ(2)=0.867, P=0.353). There was no significant difference in the KPS score between the 2 groups (P=0.138).@*CONCLUSION@#Despite the poor prognosis of skull base chordoma, GKS can effectively improve the survival rate and present life quality of patients with skull base chordoma.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the microneurosurgical technique and prevention of postoper-ative complications for the fourth ventricle tumors in adults. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 68 patients with the fourth ventricle tumors between August 2005 and August 2007 in Xiangya Hospital after microsurgical operation. Tumors were excised by inferior vermis cere-bellar approach or cerebellomedullary fissure approach. The extent of tumor removal should take into consideration the possible injury of brain stem respiratory center, especially tumors adherent to the brain stem. Cerebral aqueduct obstructions were removed in all patients, suspending dura on the neck muscles during closing skull to eliminate scalp hydrops. Results There were 58 total tumor excisions and 10 subtotal tumor excisions. No patient died and no suboccipital hydrops took place before dis-charge in this study. Postoperative symptomatic hydrocephalus was found in 10 patients, but it was cured by ventricle-abdomen shunt. Hemorrhage in tumor lumen happened in 4 patients, who received second microsurgery. Drugs were given to 8 patients with intracranial pneumatocele, 10 with intracra-nial infection, and 18 with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Five patients out of the 16 tracheoto-mies recovered well by mechanical ventilation. Conclusion Protecting the life center of brain stem and dredging the aqueduct outlet completely were the key to surgical success. Therapeutic effect could be improved by adept microneurosurgical techniques after operation. The prognosis of patients may be improved by preventing complications actively and combined therapy after the operation.

ABSTRACT

Background and purpose: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) isolated from human glioma are cancer-initiating cells and sources of tumor recurrence in brain tumors. The poor outcome of glioma is because cancer stem cells can not be eradicated. This article was aimed to explore the resistance of CSCs to chemotherapeutic agents and expression of drug-resistance enzymes in glioma cancer stem cells. Methods: Cancer stem cells from U251 were isolated by using magnetic sorting. The proliferation inhibitory effects of Vumon-26 (Vm-26), bischloronitrosourea (BCNU) and diamminedichloroplatinum (DDP) on U251-CSC and U251 were examined by drug sensitivity testing in vitro (MTT assay) and the apoptosis rates were observed by flow cytometry. Western blot was performed to examine the expression of three drug-resistance enzymes including LRP, MGMT and Topo Ⅱα. Results: Chemotherapeutic agents had a more obvious inhibitory effect on U251 than U251-CSC, as well as higher apoptosis rates. LRP, MGMT and Topo Ⅱα expression were significantly higher in U251-CSC as compared to U251, Conclusion: Glioma stem cells showed strong capability of tumor's resistance to chemotherapeutic agents including Vm-26, BCNU and DDP. This resistance is probably contributed by the CD133 positive cell with higher expression of on LRP, MGMT and Topo Ⅱα.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the dynamic changes of posttraumatic focal brain edema. Methods 120 patients who underwent multiple CT scans after head injury with hematoma or brain contusion in our hospital from 1998 to 2002 were enrolled in this study. Their CT image parameters and clinical data were recorded, and statistically analyzed. Results 96.7%(116/120) patients had perihematoma or pericontusion edema. Edema appeared 7 hours after head injury and reached its climax at the ninth day. Edema shape trended taper during its development, and cortex escaped from edema. Conclusion Focal brain edema was very common in the patient with head injury. Taper shape's formation and escape of cortex may mainly attribute to the difference in construction topology and blood supply between cerebral white and gray matter.
